ABP’s 21 ports and rail freight terminals around Britain offer unparalleled marine, road and rail access to domestic and international markets, and include 87km of quay and 1.4 million sqm of covered storage.

To enable the introduction and growth of drones, ABPorts needed a platform to help them manage their operations.

Problem

Associated British Ports

  1. Identified drones as a solution to asset management, but had no system to manage their pilots, fleet management, or flight planning.

  2. With 21 ports across the UK they needed a system to create common workflows for all pilots.

Solution

Every pilot, aircraft and drone operation is now managed through the dronecloud platform.

Dronecloud manages every aspect of the of the workflow both Pilots and Managers.

For Pilots, dronecloud provides intuitive map based flight planning tools, risk assessments, integrated flight logging, pilot and aircraft currency, checklists and more. This ensures every flight is safe and compliant with CAA regulations and ABPorts own safety requirements.

For Managers, Dronecloud, provides complete oversight of all drone operations happening around the the ports. Managers have full visibility of the planning and intentions every operation. Managers also have dashboard reporting tools to analyse activities, including most active pilots and aircraft or identifying those pilots not keeping up to date.

Impact

Huge savings in paper work from old method of pilots managing flights and logging their flights in spreadsheets. Took ages. Drone manager used to collate each pilots logs.

No oversight of pilots and their operations. Managers can now see every pilot across the UK. Where each pilot is operating and on what operation.

Dronecloud was the preferred management application we sourced when we began using drones within our business in 2020. It was selected due to the functionality and user interface. It simplifies the recording of the required information as required by the Civil Aviation Authority and acts as a ‘one stop shop’ for the management and reporting of our drone operations.

We have a close working relationship with dronecloud who listen to our feedback and support us in our requirements. I would not hesitate recommending dronecloud to those that require a simple and effective management tool for drone operations.
